The Noble Eightfold Path comprises right view, intention, speech, action, livelihood, effort, mindfulness and concentration. These mutually support wisdom, ethical conduct and mental cultivation; they are not eight certificates to earn in order. Right concentration in the early texts is described through the jhānas, states of meditative absorption. The path includes how we act and speak, not meditation alone.
