Dāna, or generosity, is a foundational Buddhist practice. Giving can help loosen possessiveness and strengthen care. Money is only one form: time, attention, useful knowledge and voluntary service can also help others.
In AN 5.148, giving is described with care for timing, respect and the well-being of both giver and receiver. Give within your means. Consider what is actually needed, rather than what is easiest to offer.
For community work, follow the organisation’s safeguarding and volunteer arrangements. Help should respect the recipient’s dignity and should never depend on their adopting your beliefs.
