Buddhism begins with a human question: how can we understand suffering and live with greater wisdom and care? The Buddha is remembered as an awakened teacher. His teaching invites learning, ethical conduct and the cultivation of the mind.
Three sources of guidance
- Buddha: the awakened teacher and the possibility of awakening.
- Dhamma (Dharma): the teaching and the path of practice.
- Sangha: in refuge, the noble community of realised practitioners; the word also commonly refers to the monastic community, and sometimes more broadly to a practice community.
You do not need to know every term before beginning. Read a little, consider it carefully, and try a harmless, helpful action. Learning with a responsible teacher and community can deepen what a website introduces.
